No doubt to promote the release of their new album, No Line on the Horizon, the first week in March, U2 will be guests on the Late Show with David Letterman for five nights straight from March 2-6. There is a short blurb here about the U2 Letterman appearances.

I am looking forward to hearing more cuts from the album. I like Get on Your Boots, but it is not destined to be one of my favorite U2 songs. I tend to like the more eclectic songs on U2 albums rather than the ‘hits’.

I am also anxiously awaiting the release of the new Green Day album which is set for release in May. Rumor has it that it is as good, or better, than American Idiot. I hope the rumors are true!

Cheers!

The ads for this special caught my attention because they were set to one of my favorite U2 songs, Pride (In the Name of Love)!, but I missed the cable premiere of the show last Sunday (2nd hour of the show conflicted with John Adams and The Tudors). Luckily, there will be an encore presentation this Saturday at 4PM EDT on the History Channel. The previous link will take you to a special History.com KING minisite chocked full of information about the content and the making of the show. It looks like a show that is well worth watching.

I ran across this video of John Legend performing Pride (In the Name of Love)! for the KING special on the U2.com site. I love John’s arrangement of this song for piano and solo voice, and his performance is second only to U2′s rendition. The video editing which splices actual clips of MLK Jr into the recording of the song is quite moving.

Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington’s film “U2 3D” will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival tonight (following the screening of Michael Moore’s “Sicko”). U2 will be playing live on the Palais steps tonight around 6pm Eastern time, and can be viewed live via an internet feed on ifc.com.

Eighteen cameras were used in the filming of multiple shows on the band’s tour of South America last year. The editing is still taking place but the final film is expected to be between 80 and 90 minutes in length. At one show in Chile, the crew only filmed Larry on drums for the whole show – another night was a ‘phantom shoot’, homing in on the band close-up, but with no audience in the venue.

The production team are predicting that the film could change the face of music videos. ’3D is now digital and and it’s going to start to change music videos. And when you no longer need the glasses, then it will really take off.” Click this link to read the entire article on the U2.com site.

The live version of The Saints are Coming video, taped at the SuperDome in October of 2006, can be purchased at iTunes by clicking on the image below. This performance/song was nominated for a Grammy this year. The song is great, but the video really rocks.

I also found this Wiki that has a lot of interesting and detailed information about the history of this song, and the original group that wrote and performed it. Links to many other interesting sites and related information are included as well.
