I hated to see the Saints lose to the Bears today, but it just wasn’t meant to be I guess. The monsters of the Midway eventually prevailed after a strong start to the third quarter by the Saints offense. Hats off to the Bears though. What a relentless defense, and you’ve just got to love Rex…he showed what he really has today. Kudos to UT alums Vasher and Benson, both of whom had some big plays.

Even though I am disappointed by today’s loss, I am really excited about the Saints future prospects. If they are this good at this stage of the game, they could be a force to contend with for several years to come. They have nothing to hang their heads about either. It was a great game today, and it was a wonderful season. Now I can just sit back and enjoy the superbowl, not having to worry about who will win. I like all the remaining teams and I am hoping for a couple more exciting and well played games before kissing this NFL season goodbye.

On a sidebar – Roger Federer and Andy Roddick are both playing well at the Australian Open (as is James Blake). If they both continue to win they will meet in the semifinals, and if Nadal keeps winning on his side of the draw we could see a Nadal – Federer or Nadal – Roddick final. Something to look forward to.

The fans were unbelievable, and the team responded as they have all season. They were methodical and well balanced. The score (27-24) was a true reflection of the game. The Saints had a clear advantage in terms of ball possession and rushing yards – the Eagles had a few big plays. I love watching this team play! They are so well coached, the play calling is right on, and the execution is excellent most of the time – keep in mind, there are a lot of young players on this team.

Go Saints!! You are America’s “new” team!

The score sort of says it all. It was a good old fashioned ass whipping, and it left no doubt in my mind that the Saints are for real. Home field advantage for the playoffs looks like a real good possibility, and maybe even a first week bye! (I hate counting chickens…..but I just can’t help it) This team is doing everything right, and the collective talent that is emerging (both players and coaches) is truly exciting.

I do have to give an honorable mention to Vince Young however, his winning 39 yard TD run in overtime yesterday took me right back to the Rose bowl last year. Way to go Vince!!

Bring on the playoffs!!

The concert, although much too short, was a rousing start to a well played football game. If you missed the concert, or want to hear it again, you can watch the 10 minute performance at the Rhapsody site here. You can also download an audio version of The Saints Are Coming from the Rhapsody site as well, with the proceeds going to Music Rising. And my final plug, if you want a cool Music Rising t-shirt like the one Edge is wearing in the photo from my blog post yesterday, go to the U2.com site to the U2 shop (again, proceeds go to Music Rising).

Since the demise of the Packers, I have been looking for a new football team to ‘adopt’. I thought it might be the Titans, since Vince went there, but they aren’t playing Vince yet, and they are really painful to watch at the moment. I thought it might be the Bucks, since Chris went there, but Chris won’t be playing for a while since having his spleen removed last Sunday after taking a horrible beating on the field (get better soon Chis), and the Bucks aren’t any more fun than the Titans to watch at the moment (one can only be amused by Chucky’s scowls for so long). So, that leaves the Saints, since Drew went there, and they look wonderful!! I haven’t seen such a well played game of football, front to finish, offense, defense and special teams, for quite some time. So it’s official, I am now a Saints fan.

I added a few more entries on the Plant Catalog page today. Take a look if you get a chance. I also uploaded some new pictures of the gardens and plants in the greenhouse to Flickr today, check them out too.

Take care & rock on.
Carol
