I believe that the public pressure being applied by organizations such as the SaveDarfur.org is making a difference, and the U.N. re-assessment is one positive result. It seems the least the international community can do for the citizens and refugees in this area is to provide them sanctuary and sustenance while the political/social situation is being addressed.

I feel so helpless when I see and hear what is going on in Darfur every day. In my head I hear Bono singing “How long? How long must I sing this song?”

There are a few things that can be done though. They may seem like small and insignificant things, but I think that many small actions can add up and can have a very significant effect. If you, like I, are concerned about the native citizens of Darfur, there is a petition that you can sign on the I Save Darfur site. There is also alot of really good and current information on the situation in Darfur on that site also.

Senator Edwards has also circulated an e-mail requesting folks to sign a petition. That e-mail can be viewed in its entirety by clicking here

I hate to sound like a “bleeding heart liberal”, but if you have compassion for the plight of these people, please take just a little time to sign a couple of petitions. I am so sure it will make a difference, and what is to lose by trying?

Blessings.
Carol
