Well it isn’t Live8, from a musical perspective, – no criticism meant for all of the great talent that is participating – but technically speaking, Live Earth is much better produced and distributed than Live8. I am watching the feed on UHD in high definition and dolby digital surround sound, and it rocks!! I can’t wait to see John Mayer, the Dave Matthews Band, the Police, Roger Waters, Linkin Park, and many others in HD & surround sound. Check out the MSN site for all of the concert details. To get involved and to make your pledge to take personal action to limit energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions, visit the liveearth.org site. There is alot of practical information on this site to help us get started to make the changes we all must make in order to begin the healing of our planet. It is a huge problem, but with global participation, we can change the course we are on. If each one of us makes small changes, a big impact will be made. I encourage you to visit the site, take the pledge, start being the change we all must be to start the healing.

I enjoyed reading John Mayer’s blog entry about his hope and excitement regarding his participation in this event.

I woke up this morning with hope. Excitement, even. Live Earth is taking place in 48 hours, and I’m starting to feel the first ripples of what could become a revolution.

I hope that for all the cynicism that’s existed around this subject, we can all uncross our arms long enough to give this event a chance to impact the world in the way that I’m beginning to feel that it could. I agree with John. I prefer to hope, and believe that this event will shine a light on a problem that far eclipses any other that human beings have ever faced. If we care about ourselves, each other, and our collective future, we must commit to making changes in our lifestyles. In what and how we consume. In the process we will foster just and fair trade of high-value products that were not produced on the backs and with the blood of the young and destitute. We will take the money and control out of the hands of the corporations that are choking the life out of our planet and the populations that inhabit it, and invest it in services, research, and products that provide value to people and actively sustain the earth and all of its inhabitants.

Answer the call! Together we can be the change. We are the leaders we have been waiting for. Stand up.

The focus of these organizations is to persuade individuals, communities, corporations, and local, state, and federal governments around the globe to take immediate actions to reduce greenhouse pollution through education as well as incentives.

The SOS – Alliance for Climate Protection collaboration brings together SOS founder Kevin Wall, and Alliance for Climate Protection Chairperson Al Gore in a global effort that should rival Live 8 in use of the Internet and technology for reaching the largest volume of participants in real time, live. Al Gore’s reputation is well known, and Kevin Wall is the CEO of Control Room, “which produces and distributes live music concerts on the Internet, radio, television, mobile phones, at retail stores and in theaters.” Wall was also the Worldwide Executive Producer of Live 8.

Here is the summary blurb from the Live Earth site describing some interesting aspects of the event:

Live Earth will use the global reach of music to engage people on a mass scale to combat our climate crisis. Live Earth will bring together more than 150 of the world’s top musicians for 24-hours of music from 7 concerts across all 7 continents. Live Earth will bring together an audience of more than 2 billion at the concerts and through television, radio, film, and the Internet. That audience, and the proceeds from the event, will create the foundation for a new, multi-year global effort to combat the climate crisis led by Vice President Al Gore. Kevin Wall, Worldwide Executive Producer of Live 8, is producing Live Earth.

All Live Earth venues will be designed and constructed by a groundbreaking team of sustainability engineers and advisors directed by John Picard. This greening team will address the environmental and energy management concerns of each concert site, as well as the operations of sponsors, partners, and other Live Earth affiliates.

Each venue will not only be designed to maintain a minimum environmental impact, but will showcase the latest state-of-the-art energy efficiency, on-site power generation, and sustainable facilities management practices.

Tickets for the concerts go on sale on Monday, April 16 at 10am EDT in the US, and ticketing in the UK will be handled through a pre-registration ballot system which opens on Friday, April 13th at Noon GMT and closes Monday, April 16th at Noon GMT. The current line ups look pretty good, although I am disappointed not to see Green Day and U2 on the lists (yet…..).
