The recently updated Dave Matthews Band web site is much improved. It seems to be a trend with bands lately that they update their web sites when they are launching a tour. I especially like the ‘Sounds’ section where you can play an audio stream of any cut off of any DMB album. There are also some interesting videos linked from this section like the one below for “Don’t Drink the Water”.

Will.i.am is Turning Green

Will.i.am has released a set of videos focused on environmental activism, and has put up a post on HuffPo discussing his thoughts about the priority of taking action to heal and preserve our planet.

What could be more important at this critical time? A recent National Intelligence report stated that the effects of global warming are now our #1 security threat. Fear tactic? I think not. The threat is real, and we must take swift and bold action to address it. Each of us can, and must participate in this effort.

U2 on Letterman for Five Nights

No doubt to promote the release of their new album, No Line on the Horizon, the first week in March, U2 will be guests on the Late Show with David Letterman for five nights straight from March 2-6. There is a short blurb here about the U2 Letterman appearances.

I am looking forward to hearing more cuts from the album. I like Get on Your Boots, but it is not destined to be one of my favorite U2 songs. I tend to like the more eclectic songs on U2 albums rather than the ‘hits’.

I am also anxiously awaiting the release of the new Green Day album which is set for release in May. Rumor has it that it is as good, or better, than American Idiot. I hope the rumors are true!

Music Lineup for Inaugural Opening Event Released

The lineup for the Opening Celebration for the 56th Presidential Inaugural was announced today on the Presidential Inaugural Committee blog and it is a great one: “Musical performers scheduled for the event include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am, and Stevie Wonder. Among those reading historical passages will be Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington.” The event will be televised on HBO on Sunday, January 18 (7:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT).

I was already anxiously anticipating the Inaugural activities, but hearing the details of the opening event has really ramped up my interest. I have also been anxiously awaiting the release of the new U2 album, No Line on the Horizon, in March, and hopefully a U2 tour in the not too distant future (no dates announced yet). So I was very excited to see Bono in the lineup for the opening celebration. He seems to be the only non-American in the show….. interesting. Perhaps he and Mary J. Blige will treat us to a performance of One. I am sure this event will be impeccably produced, as every Obama event has been, and the content and presentation will be memorable.

The other interesting event of note that is taking place on Inauguration day is the Neighborhood Ball. Tickets to this ball were available to DC residents only. It will be attended by the Obamas, and will be televised on ABC and on the Internet. I have always wondered what took place at one of these events. This will be my chance to see.

Check out the Presidential Inaugural Committee website for more details and updates. I was wondering why they have been soliciting donations for the Inaugural events and I found out today on a C-SPAN segment. Obama’s representative explained that they are following the same principles regarding funding that they did during the campaign; no PAC or lobbyist contributions, limitations on personal contribution amounts, no contributions from corporations, etc. So, if you have some spare change, you might want to contribute to the biggest celebration America has ever seen.
