Shining a Little Light on Health Care Reform

This all day meeting between President Obama and congressional leaders to discuss health care reform in our country was revealing, but not surprising. I am guessing that all of Barack’s experience as the editor of the Harvard Law Review prepared him well for chairing this sort of meeting. He is a master of moderating this sort of debate, and it was a pleasure to watch how he handled the agenda and flow of the discussion without being too heavy-handed.

I heard and saw what I expected to see, and I was not disappointed in Barack. I have full confidence that he will get health reform passed, and it WILL include affordable options. Below are the videos of the entire day.

The French Open Begins Today

The best thing about the Memorial Day holiday for me these days is that it coincides with the start of the French Open. I love watching tennis on the clay surface, especially when the matches (mens) are five sets long. It is like the Belmont of tennis.

The television coverage of tennis on DirecTV is excellent. The Tennis Channel has five high definition channels with simultaneous live coverage of the action on all of the courts starting at 5am EDT every day.

IBM continues to run the official web site for the slams this year, and they have the widget below available for your web site. This is a sweet little widget. It includes live scores, news, and the order of play. You can grab it from the widget below.

Update: Nice how the widget changes to display content from the next slam event as soon as the current event is completed.

Sometimes being an IBMer is something to feel proud of, and the announcement of Watson, the new IBM system that will challenge humans in the game of Jeopardy, made me feel proud of my fellow IBMers at IBM Research. The implications of this kind of computer intelligence is honestly staggering. I hope that we are up to the challenge.
