I tend to shy away from discussing politics on my blog because I think far too much time and money is spent in our country focusing on political campaigns rather than the real problems and issues we face in our day to day lives. I am, however, very interested in social activism and working toward real, practical solutions to global human and environmental issues. So I normally look toward the private sector for non-partisan leadership and I contribute to organizations who are not politically or religiously affiliated. I do vote, and I do educate myself on the issues and candidates because I know I must participate in the system if I hope to change it, but I have no faith in the system at this point.
All that being said, I saw John Edwards yesterday on CNN and was unexpectedly impressed by John’s sincerity and insights. I have paid some attention to his activities since the 2004 election, and have been glad to see that he has continued to focus on many issues, both national and global, that are near and dear to my heart. Yesterday he spoke with knowledge and authority about the problems in Uganda and Sudan, and about what can be done to intervene and ameliorate the tragic situation there. He also spoke about many other topics that I feel are important social issues that deserve focus and attention.
As a result of seeing this interview, I went to John’s website and was very pleased by what I found there. There are actually bloggers having intelligent conversations about complex issues. This is an interesting space to watch as the 2008 elections draw closer.

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that John is going to be on Letterman tonight.
